Born on August 14, 1922, in Hathfield, Manchester, Jamaica, Imogene’s journey was one of resilience, love, and unwavering dedication to her family. Thank you to all who joined us on May 24th, 2024 when we said farewell, celebrated a life well-lived and honored the legacy of a remarkable woman.
Imogene Elizabeth Biggs, née Larmond, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2024, at the age of 101, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Hathfield, Manchester, Jamaica, on August 14, 1922, Imogene was the cherished daughter of Gertrude Levy Larmond and Frederick Larmond. Growing up, Imogene was surrounded by her five siblings: Hubert, James, Larry, Rose, and Ivy. Each siblingadded to the rich tapestry of her early life experiences.
Imogene’s journey through life was marked by love, resilience, and dedication to her family. She married Arthur Biggs, who preceded her in death on November 13, 1975, and together they nurtured a beautiful family of seven children: Dacosta (Janet), Delores (Manley), Trevor (Aliza), Patrick (Joyce), Winston (Silvia), Winsome and Victor (Brigette). In addition to her own children, Imogene adopted and nurtured Novelette (Kenute) Francis, Tyrone Thompson and the late Pearl Crawford and Iceline Grant as her own.
In 1969, Imogene bravely embarked on a new chapter in her life, migrating to the United States to pursue a better life for her children. There, she worked tirelessly as a Certified Nursing Assistant, providing care and comfort to those in need. After years of hard work, she retired and returned home to Jamaica in 1989, where she became an active member of St. Mark’s Anglican Church and the community of Brown’s Town, St. Ann.
Imogene’s legacy extends far beyond her immediate family of 5 generations including chiildren, grands, great, great-great, and in-laws, totaling over 70, each touched by her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love. Imogene was known for her caring nature, quick wit, and fierce advocacy for her beliefs and justice.
Though she may have left this world, Imogene’s spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love, strength, and compassion will forever be cherished and remembered.
Established in 2022, The Imogene Biggs Education Fund honors Imogene’s legacy of kindness, generosity, and her passion for improving the world, particularly for youth. Dedicated to upholding her commitment to supporting the youth of Brown’s Town, Jamaica, the fund strives to eliminate financial obstacles hindering their educational pursuits.
Together, we will gather to honor Imogene’s memory, celebrate her remarkable life, and find solace in the love and support of family and friends. Your presence and support during this time are deeply appreciated as we come together to pay tribute to a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend.
